On 3 February 2016 updated information about Stamaril® yellow fever vaccine was published by the manufacturer Sanofi Pasteur MSD, in the form of a Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL).

SPC’s are written and updated by pharmaceutical companies based on their research/ product knowledge and explain how to prescribe and use a medication for health professionals.  The PIL is the leaflet that is included in the pack with a medicine, written by the pharmaceutical company and is a patient-friendly version of the SPC. SPC’s and PILs are available on the electronic Medicines Compendium.

Advice for travellers

Travellers visiting yellow fever areas should review the updated PIL for their own information and discuss the issues around yellow fever with their health care provider.

Advice for health professionals

Health professionals advising travellers about yellow fever vaccine should review the updated SPC as there have been a number of changes to the current edition.
