Falsified rabies vaccines: PhilippinesSecond alert regarding falsified rabies vaccine in Philippines during 2019
The Philippines Department of Health Food and Drug Administration have issued a public health advisory about falsified rabies vaccine being used in the Philippines . This falsified rabies vaccine is labelled as ‘Rabipur’. GlaxoSmithKline, the producer of Rabipur, have confirmed these particular products are counterfeit. There is no evidence that the product has been distributed outside of the Philippines.
This is the second alert in 2019 regarding falsified rabies vaccine in the Philippines. In January 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a Medical Product Alert confirming the identification of falsified ‘Verorab’ rabies vaccine being used in Philippines .
Health care professionals with concerns about a patient who may have received falsified rabies vaccine in the Philippines can call the Public Health England Rabies and Immunoglobulin Service (RIgS) for further advice.
