      <description>On 10 June 2026, local health authorities in Western Australia reported a death from Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE). The case was likely exposed in the West Kimberley region. Health surveillance programs continue to detect MVE activity across the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. Travellers should avoid mosquito bites.</description>

It is the first cVDPV1 case reported from the country since 2023 and is genetically linked to a virus detected in the country in 2022.
