Hepatitis A in Portugal

As of 5 June 2017, 327 cases of hepatitis A have been reported since the beginning of the year. The cases are mainly men (91%) and more than half (54%) of cases were transmitted by sexual contact. Most of the cases (78%) are concentrated in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Region. The age group most affected is 18-50 years old. Cases have also been reported in other European countries.

Hepatitis A in Portugal

As of 31 March 2017, a total of 115 hepatitis A cases were reported (107 laboratory confirmed). 97% of cases are in young male adults. Molecular analysis identified a strain, related to travellers returning from Central and South America, previously identified in Spain, the UK and other European countries.
