As of 10 October 2017, a new case of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) was reported in a 19 month old child with no history of polio vaccination, who experienced onset of paralysis on 19 August 2017. The total number of confirmed cVDPV2 cases in this outbreak is now 48.

As of 15 August 2017, WHO reports three new confirmed cases of cVDPV2 in three new districts: Deir Ez-Zor district and Boukamal district in Deir Ez-Zor governorate and Tadmour district in Homs governorate. Five districts in three governorates (Deir Ez-Zor, Homs, and Raqua) are now infected and the total number of cVDPV2 cases is 33.

All cases had onset of paralysis between 3 March and 25 May. 21 of the cases are from Mayadeen district, Deir-Al-Zour governorate, and one case is from Raqua district, Raqua governorate.

As of 21 June 2017, 15 new cases of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) were reported in the past week, bringing the total to 17. The cases are from Mayadeen district, Deir-Al-Zour governorate (16 cases), and Raqua district, Raqua governorate (1).  All cases had onset of paralysis between 3 March and 23 May 2017.

As of 8 June 2017, two cases of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) has been confirmed in the Deir-Ez-Zor Governorate.  The virus strain was isolated from two cases of acute flaccid paralysis with onset of paralysis on 5 March and 6 May 2017, respectively.
