On 25 June 2019, the Global Polio Laboratory Network (GPLN) notified WHO of two new confirmed cases of genetically-distinct circulating vaccine-derived polio virus type 2 (cVDPV2) in Kasai Province.Since the beginning of 2018, a total of 25 cases of cVDPV2 have been reported from seven provinces across the DRC.

14 May 2019 Kamonia. Democratic Republic of the Congo

One case of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) was reported this week in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Kamonia, Kasai State. The onset of paralysis was reported on 8 February 2019. This is the first cVDPV case in DRC in 2019. DRC is affected now by five separate cVDPV2 outbreaks.

09 Jan 2019 Haut-Katanga. Democratic Republic of the Congo

As of October 2018, genetically-linked circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) isolates were detected in two cases from Haut-Katanga province. The viruses are unrelated to previously-detected cVDPV2s affecting the country. This is the fourth distinct outbreak detected in the country since June 2017. In total, 42 cVDPV2 cases have now been confirmed since the first outbreak in June 2017.

As of 3 August 2018, a total of 32 cases of circulating vaccine derived polio virus type 2 with onset in 2017 (22 cases) and 2018 (10 cases) have been confirmed. Six provinces have been affected, namely Haut-Lomami (9 cases), Maniema (2 cases), Tanganyika (15 cases), Haut Katanga (2 cases), Mongala (3 cases), and Ituri (1 case). The outbreak has been ongoing since February 2017.

The latest case of circulating vaccine dervied polio virus type 2 (cVDPV2) was reported from Gethy Zone, Ituri Province, on 5 May 2018. As of 29 June 2018, a total of 28 cases with onset in 2017 (22 cases) and 2018 (6 cases) have been confirmed. Six provinces have been affected: Haut-Lomami (9 cases), Maniema (2 cases), Tanganyika (14 cases), Haut Katanga (1 case), Mongala (1 case), and Ituri (1 case). The outbreak has been ongoing since February 2017.

A total of 21 children with acute flaccid paralysis have tested positive since February 2017. Onset of paralysis in the last case was 3 December 2017.
