As of 12 August 2018, a total of 57 cases, including 41 deaths have been reported.  Of the 57 cases, 30 are confirmed and 27 remain probable. An additional 58 suspected cases are being investigated. Six health zones in North Kivu Province and one neighbouring health zone in Ituri Province have reported confirmed or probable cases. Four health care workers have been affected.

On 28 July 2018, 26 cases of fever with haemorrhagic signs, including 20 deaths were reported in the province of North Kivu. Six samples taken from hospitalized patients were analyzed, four were positive for Ebola virus disease. At this stage, there is no indication that the cases are linked to the recent outbreak in the Equator Province (which is separated by more than 2,500 km).
