On April 9 2019, New York City has declared a public health emergency in Williamsburg, following a measles outbreak affecting the Orthodox Jewish community. 285 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of the outbreak in October, with many of these new cases being confirmed in the last two months. The vast majority of cases are children under 18 years of age (246 cases), and 39 cases are adults.

Measles outbreaks related to unvaccinated international travellers have been reported in 2019. As of 19 March New York city has reported 181 cases, and as of 26 March, New York State, Rockland County reported 153 cases. Rockland county have declared a state of emergency relating to the ongoing outbreak. Effective from midnight, 27 March, anyone who is under 18 years of age and unvaccinated against the measles will be barred from public places until the declaration expires in 30 days or until they receive the MMR vaccination. A smaller number of measles cases have been reported in Washington, Texas, Illinois, California and Michigan.

From 1 January to 31 January 2019, 79 individual cases of measles have been confirmed in 10 states.Three outbreaks have been reported in 2019 in New York State, New York City and Washington State and associated with travellers to Israel and Ukraine.
