As of 30 September 2020, one cVDPV2 case was reported in the Red Sea province. There are 23 cVDPV2 cases reported in 2020 so far. The initial viruses were linked to the ongoing outbreak in Chad.

On 9 August 2020, two cases of vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) have been confirmed in South Darfur and Gedarif, Sudan, with onset of paralysis on 7 March and 1 April respectively. Initial investigations indicate that these cases are genetically linked to cVDPV2 currently circulating in Chad and Cameroon. Eleven additional suspected cases are being investigated in Red Sea, West Darfur, East Darfur, White Nile, River Nile and Gezira.

As of 12 August 2020, three circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) positive environmental samples were reported this week from Khartoum. In addition, advance notification has been received of two genetically-linked cVDPV2 cases in the country, with onset of paralysis on 7 March and 1 April linked to cVDPV2 currently circulating in Chad.
