As of 16 May 2022, an additional four monkeypox cases have been reported: three in London and one linked case in the north east of England. All four cases self-identify as gay, bisexual or other men who have sex with men and have no known connection with previous confirmed cases reported earlier in May 2022. There is no history of travel to monkeypox endemic regions and the situation remains under investigation.

On 7 May 2022, a case of monkeypox was confirmed in England in an individual who had recently travelled from Nigeria, where they are believed to have contracted the infection.
