Chandipura virus infection in India

As of 23 August 2024, a total of 245 cases of acute encephalitis syndrome (64 confirmed as Chandipura virus infection cases) with 82 deaths, have been reported since early June 2024. Chandipura is endemic in India, with previous outbreaks occurring regularly. However, the current outbreak is the largest in the past 20 years.
