Japanese encephalitis in Australia
As of 25 February 2025, two locally acquired Japanese encephalitis cases (one fatal) have been reported in 2025. This is the third confirmed fatal Japanese encephalitis case reported in New South Wales since the virus was first detected in this state in 2022.
