On 23 September 2024, the Governor of New York State reported a fatal case of Eastern equine encephalitis. This is the first confirmed human case in New York State since 2015. Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin states have also reported human cases this year.
