Updated guidelines for malaria prevention in travellers from the UK
UK Health Security Agency have published updated malaria guidelines for 2026
On 17 June 2026, the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) UK Malaria Expert Advisory Group (UKMEAG) published updated Malaria prevention guidelines for travellers from the UK [1]. These guidelines provide practical advice for health professionals and travellers. They include country-specific recommendations, information on different antimalarial options, and advice for special risk travellers, such as pregnant women.
Each year several UK travellers die from malaria after visiting malaria risk countries, with most travellers who catch malaria reporting travel to Africa [2, 3].
We have now completed our review and have updated the following malaria descriptions (including new risk maps for many countries):
- Belize
- Botswana
- Dominican Republic
- Eswatini
- French Guiana
- India
- Myanmar
- Namibia
- Papua New Guinea
- Saudi Arabia
- South Africa
- South Korea
- Sudan
